One of the three S-70i Black Hawks that were recently delivered to Saudi Arabia is seen about to enter the Antonov An-124 that transported them to the Kingdom. The image has been altered to remove any identification markings from the helicopter.

On its way home after operating alongside US Navy warships in the international Exercise Frukus, the Russian Navy's anti-submarine warfare destroyer Admiral Chabanenko assigned to the Northern Fleet docked at Dublin Port on July 22, 2011. Onboard the warship was Kamov Ka-27PL Helix-A '35' red (c/n 23313), which is seen on July 25. The destroyer departed Dublin the following day and arrived back at its home base of Severomorsk on August 6.

UTair, the fourth largest provider of helicopter services in the world and the leading helicopter operator in Russia, has founded a European subsidiary, UTair Europe, based on the small Piestany Spa Airport in the Slovak Republic. Currently the fleet includes two Mil Mi-8Ts (including OM-AVS, c/n 98839307) and two Mi-171s, which are primarily used in Eastern Europe. The fleet is used to provide heavy lift services, such as the building of ski lifts, supporting telecommunications, electricity transmission lines, forestry operations, humanitarian flights for the United Nations and fire-fighting (especially in Turkey). The company has its own flying school to train new Slovak helicopter pilots on both eastern and western types, the latter to allow it to expand into some of the countries in the European Union.

The Irkut Corporation's plant at Irkutsk recently began final assembly of the 35th example of the Yakovlev Yak-130 combat trainer. Of this total, approximately ten have been completed and test flown, while about another eight Yak-130 fuselages are being assembled. Some of the aircraft in Irkut's assembly hall already have Russian Air Force insignia, as the company is producing them in anticipation of a further order from the service. Russia's National Armament Programme outlines the purchase by 2020 of 62 Yak-130s above the current batch of 12 aircraft ordered.

If the F-35B is cancelled, then the US Marine Corps would have to operate the AV-8B Harrier for longer, posing a big viability question.

Boeing JE-3C Sentry 73-1674 (c/n 21046) based at Boeing Field/King County International Airport, Washington, is the test-bed for the USAF's E-3 fleet. Several months ago the aircraft's rotodome was removed prior to it leaving the airfield in late June 2011. On July 20 it returned to Boeing Field minus its paint - the only external marking being its serial number on the tail and the letter 'E' on the fuselage. The reasons behind the removal of the paint and rotodome have not been revealed, although presumably it is being prepared for a further series of tests.

AgustaWestland AW101 Mk 610 ZR333 (c/n 50233) is the last of six ordered for the Algerian Naval Forces. The helicopter is seen on July 11, 2011 during a flight test from Yeovil, Somerset, where it was built. Three of the aircraft are at AgustaWestland's training facility at Newquay International Airport, Cornwall, where the training of Algerian crews for the type is undertaken. ZR333 is thought to be the only example at Yeovil, with the outstanding pair believed to have been delivered to Algeria.

F/A-18A Hornet A21-49 of No. 3 Squadron, RAAF, and F-15J Eagle 22-8933 of 303 Hikotai, 6 Kokudan, JASDF, flying over the Japanese countryside on July 14, 2011 during the first training sortie by the RAAF in the country.

F-15C-27-MC Eagle 80-0018 of the 186th Fighter Squadron, 120th Fighter Wing of the Montana Air National Guard, is seen overflying Kingsley Field, Oregon, during Sentry Eagle.

Royal Jordanian Air Force F-16AM 153 (ex FA-100), F-16BM 161 (ex FB-10) and F-16AM 158 (ex FA-125) on the Alpha Line at Kleine-Brogel AB on July 19. F-16s 161 and 155 left the same day for Aviano AB in Italy, the first leg of their ferry flight to Al Azraq AB in Jordan.

On August 4, 2011 the initial batch of four Lockheed Martin F-16C Block 52 Fighting Falcons were officially handed over to the Royal Moroccan Air Force (RMAF). A ceremony was undertaken at Ben Guerrir Air Base to mark the delivery, the aircraft being the first new fighters to enter service with the RMAF for around 30 years. Morocco ordered 18 F-16Cs and six F-16Ds, and its initial cadre of pilots for the type is being trained by the 162nd Fighter Wing of the Arizona Air National Guard.

By mid-June some of the seven CF-188A(M) Hornets (188734, ‘739, '752, '756, '759, '760, and '769) deployed to support Task Force Libeccio operating over Libya had returned to No.425 Squadron at 3 Wing, CFB Bagotville, after being replaced by fresh aircraft. Several of them display significant numbers of mission markings from the campaign, including 188734 (55 GBU-12s and four GBU-10s) and 188739 (38 GBU-12s and two GBU-Ws). The GBU-10 and GBU-12 are, respectively, 2,000lb (907kg) Mk82 and 500lb (227kg) Mk84 bombs fitted with precision guidance kits. Hornets 188752 and '756 have also been noted back at Bagotville, but it has not been confirmed if they still have their mission markings.

Another type making its public debut at F-AIR 2011 was the Fuerza Aerea Colombiana's (Colombian Air Force) Boeing 767-200 Multi-Mission Tanker Transport, FAC 1202 Jupiter (c/n 24157, ex N983JM). The aircraft was converted to the role by Israel Aerospace Industries and delivered in late 2010. It serves with Escuadron de Transporte 811, Grupo de Transporte Aereo 81, (Transport Squadron 811, Air Transport Group 81) based at El Dorado, Bogota. The aircraft is seen in company with IAI Kfirs at the show.

Noted departing Manchester International Airport on August 2, 2011 was RAF Lockheed TriStar KC1 ZD950 (c/n 193V-1164) devoid of all paint and markings. The tanker transport flew to Marshall Airport, Cambridge, for a C-check with Marshall Aerospace. The aircraft had all its paint stripped by Air Livery at its hangar in Manchester.

Increasing numbers of NATO aircraft are acquiring mission markings from operations over Libya, such as French Air Force Mirage F1CR 643/'112-CE'.

The Israel Air and Space Force (IASF) flies a Beech A36 Bonanza - known as the Hofit (Stint) in IASF service - in mixed markings, with the IASF number 330 and US civil registration N56MJ (c/n ' E3525). The Israelis inducted 20 Hofit aircraft between December 2004 and July 2005 and added two more in 2006 - 330 is one of the latter. It is seen at Dov Field on August 1, 2011. The fleet is utilised for liaison between IASF air bases and observation along Israel’s borders.

On July 29, 2011 the US Forest Service (USFS) terminated a five-year contract for six fire-fighting Lockheed P-3 Orions that it had signed in 2008 with Aero Union of Sacramento, California. Aero Union had informed the USFS in April that its aircraft did not comply with the safety standards of the USFS, and so the deal was terminated. Seen on August 13 at McClellan Field, California, is P-3A N927AU (ex-BuNo 151369), which was parked up along with six other Aero Union Orions - which have not flown since the beginning of August.

Sikorsky MH-60S BuNo 168035 is one of the two recently delivered to the Royal Thai Navy.

An MH-60S Seahawk assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 22 (HSC-22) takes off from the amphibious transport dock ship USS Ponce (LPD 15).

Tornado GR4 ZA449/'020' departs RAF Marham, Norfolk, carrying an MBDA Storm Shadow on August 10, 2011. The aircraft was one of six of the type that flew from the base to attack a command bunker near Sebha, 435 miles (700km) south of Tripoli, in Libya. Tanker support was provided by VC10s and TriStars as the aircraft flew over southern Europe and the Mediterranean. After the missiles were launched, the Tornados landed at Gioia del Colle in Italy at the conclusion of the seven-hour mission. The aircraft later returned to RAF Marham.

Panavia Tornado ECR 46+33 (build number GS266) from the Luftwaffe's Jagdbombergeschwader 32 (Fighter Bomber Wing - 32) was the winner of this year's best livery award at the Royal International Air Tattoo 2011, held annually at RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire. The aircraft is the current tiger jet of the Lechfeld Tigers and also participated in this year's Tiger Meet at Cambrai, France.

On July 28, 2011 Boeing delivered the third C-17A Globemaster III (1225, c/n F-237/UE-3) from Long Beach, California, to the United Arab Emirates Air Force and Air Defence. The initial aircraft (1223, c/n F-234/UE-1, ex N9500N) was handed over on May 10 and the second (1224, c/n F-235/ UE-2) on June 10. The fourth is due to be delivered later in 2011 and a further two will join the force in 2012. A total of 234 C-17As are currently in service with seven customers.

Azerbaijan cargo carrier Silk Way Airlines celebrates ten years of operations during 2011. To mark the milestone its aircraft have been adorned with the titles '10 Years in the Sky' on the rear fuselage. Ilyushin Il-76TD-90VD 4K-AZ101 (c/n 2073421716) is seen landing at Cologne Bonn Airport on July 25. The freighter picked up supplies for the German contingent in Afghanistan. Previous flights had used Neubrandenburg, but runway work there forced a change of venue to Cologne from July 25. Silk Way, based at Baku, commenced operations on October 6, 2001, primarily flying between Europe and Asia, with its name reflecting the ancient 'silk road' trade routes.

AgustaWestland AW109 Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) AG45 was noted at Malpensa, Italy, in late June 2011. The helicopter is believed to be one of 25 of an order finalised in the second quarter of 2010. Ten will be delivered to the Unite Aerienne de la Surete Nationale (National Police Aviation Unit) and the other 15 (including this example) will be delivered to the Gendarmerie Nationale Border Protection Force. AG45 carries a comprehensive communication suite, and what appears to be emergency floatation gear under the cockpit and rear of the fuselage.

The first Airbus A380-841 for Malaysian Airlines (msn 078) is now in final assembly at Toulouse, southern France. The aircraft is seen here on July 18, 2011, shortly after its fuselage and wings were joined together in the assembly hall. It is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2012 and is expected to be introduced on European routes shortly afterwards.

Boeing 747-281 F(SCD) EK-74739 (c/n 23139, ex N747BN) is seen at Liege Airport in Belgium on July 30, 2011. The freighter is the first for Ark Airways and was previously flown by Eurex as 4L-KMK. It was delivered to Ark on May 27.

The first Boeing 777-2HT(LRF) freighter for TNT Airways (OO-TSA, c/n 38969) arrived at Liege Airport in Belgium on July 23, 2011. The aircraft will be used on routes from Liege and Belfast International Airport during August before being redeployed on long-range flights.

The sun seems to have set for Air India joining Star Alliance.

Boeing 727-2M7F (Adv) PR-MTJ (c/n 21952, ex N742RW) was noted at Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport, Santiago in Chile on July 28, 2011 undergoing engine tests. The freighter has spent around two years outside the Airman Aircraft Maintenance facility at the airport, devoid of its former TAF Linhas Aereas titles. It is not known if the aircraft will return to TAF service or is being prepared for a new operator.

China Southern Airlines took delivery of the first Embraer 190 handed over to China's CBD Leasing Co (CLC) on August 11, 2011 at the manufacturer's Sao Jose dos Campos headquarters in Sao Paulo. The airliner (B-3197, c/n 19000456 ex PT-TNX) joined the fleet of China Southern Air Holding Xinjiang Company and operates in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. It is the first of 20 ordered by CLC in January and April, all destined for China Southern Airlines, of which six are due to be delivered in 2011.

Lockheed C-130K Hercules C3 XV202 is seen about to touch down on August 12, 2011 at RAF Cosford, Shropshire, at the conclusion of the variant's final flight in RAF service. XV202 will go on display within the RAF Museum at Cosford sometime in September. Before then the airframe will be stripped of any useful parts that can be used to support the current C-130K fleet, and time expired components installed instead to ensure the transport is complete for display purposes. The aircraft will be the only example of the C-130K due to be preserved in the UK. A handful of short-fuselage Hercules C1s and stretched, special-missions-dedicated C3As remain in service.

Lockheed C-130E Hercules 4180 (c/n 4180, ex A97-180) from No.6 Squadron of the Pakistan Air Force participated in Air Mobility Rodeo 2011 held between July 18 and 30, 2011 at McChord Field, Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State. Arriving on July 19, the Pakistani aircrews took part in all of the C-130 events, except those requiring the use of night vision goggles. This year's Rodeo was the third time the nation had taken part, crews having previously attended the 2007 and 2005 events.

Also participating at Air Mobility Rodeo was the Royal Saudi Air Force with Lockheed C-130H Hercules 1625 (c/n 5269) of No. 16 Squadron with a modernised cockpit. The upgrade was performed by Esterline CMC Electronics, which replaced the analogue flight information units with its Cockpit 9000 featuring the CMA-9000 Flight Management System with six large screens. By mid-June six Saudi C-130s had been modernised out of the 23 ordered. The Fuerza Aerea de Chile (Chilean Air Force) is the second service with the upgrade, having ordered two C-130Hs to be modified. Ten customers had ordered the upgrade by mid-June 2011.

Members of the 131st Surveillance Target Acquisition Battery, 20th Surveillance Target Acquisition Regiment of the Royal Australian Artillery, based at Enoggera Barracks, Brisbane in Queensland, pose with an Insitu ScanEagle during Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011. The Battery and contractor Insitu Pacific operated the unmanned air vehicle over the Shoalwater Bay Military Training Area, Queensland, during the exercise to provide an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability to commanders taking part. The exercise ran between July 11 and 29, 2011.

On August 14, 2011 Qatar Emiri Air Force Westland Commando Mk 3 QA33 (c/n WA922, seen here) of 8 Squadron and AgustaWestland AW139 QA67 were seen at Luqa International Airport on Malta. The helicopters were travelling to Tunisia to help humanitarian operations in connection with those fleeing the conflict in neighbouring Libya.

Saab 340A SP-MRC (c/n 340A-143 ex EC-IRR) of Sky Taxi based at Wroclaw in Poland has had new GoodFly titles applied. The commuter-liner aircraft is seen on approach to runway 13 at Malaga Costa del Sol Airport in Spain on July 16, 2011, while operating flight IGA614. It is one of two operated by Sky Taxi. GoodFly is based at Burgos Airport, Spain, and was formed in 2010. It flies to Menorca, Faro and Alicante, as well as Malaga.

Bell Boeing has submitted a second multi-year buy of V-22 Ospreys. This example is MV-22B BuNo 168011/'PH00' operated by Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 561 (VMM-561) 'Pale Horses'.

Making it public debut at F-AIR 2011 held at Aeropuerto Jose Maria Cordove in Medellin, Antioquia, Colombia, between July 6 and 10, 2011, was a Basler AC-47T Fantasma of the Fuerza Aerea Colombiana (Colombian Air Force). FAC 1658 (c/n 15793/32541, ex 44-76209) of Escuadrilla de Combate Tactico 1113 (tactical combat squadron) is based at Marandua. The gunship version of the Basler BT67 upgrade of the C-47 has been in Colombian service since at least 1991 and nine examples are believed to have been delivered.

Armee de I'Air (French Air Force) Alpha Jet E E107 (F-TEUD) has been painted in a special scheme to commemorate 50 Years of the Ecole de l'Aviation de Chasse (EAC, Fighter Aircraft School) at Base Aerienne 705 (BA705 - Air Base 705) Tours, France. It was displayed at the Belgian Air Force 65th Anniversary Air Show at Koksijde AB on July 6 and 7, 2011. Since July 6, 2005, Belgian and French Alpha Jets fly side-by-side at the EAC at Tours as the Advanced Jet Training School (AJetS). Ecole de l'Aviation de Chasse 00.314 (EAC) was established in Marrakech, Morocco, in 1943 and was transferred to Meknes in 1944. It later became the primary school for jet transition of the French Air Force. After 18 years in North Africa the EAC moved to France. At Tours it initially operated Lockheed T-33A Shooting Stars and Dassault MD450 Ouragans, with the Ouragans soon being replaced by the Dassault Mystere IVA. In 1979 the Shooting Stars and Mystere IVAs were replaced by the Alpha Jet E.

Tiger Airways Australia Airbus A320-232 VH-VNB (msn 2906) was one of several aircraft from the carrier's fleet temporarily grounded at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport, Victoria. Seen on July 30, 2011, it was one of two towed from a remote parking spot and into the John Holland Aviation Services hangar (Building 91) for work to be carried out.

Seen at Manchester International Airport on July 30, 2011 was Airbus A320-211 S5-AAT (msn 191) of Adria Airways. The airliner is painted in a retro scheme to celebrate the carrier's 50th anniversary and carries the slogan Adria 50 years with you on the forward port fuselage.

RQ-4E Euro Hawk 99+01 touching down at Manching in Bavaria at 1006hrs on July 21, 2011, on its delivery flight to Germany from Edwards AFB, California.

Boeing 787-881 Dreamliner JA801A (c/n 34485) was rolled out on August 6, 2011. It will be the first example of the airliner to be delivered to launch customer All Nippon Airlines in September.

Seen departing Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport on August 1, 2011 was Boeing 737-205(Adv) N370BC (c/n 23468 ex HZ-TBA) of Basic Capital Management (BCM) Majestic Corporation. The aircraft arrived from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and passed through Budapest on its way to Washington Dulles International Airport, District of Columbia, via Keflavik International Airport in Iceland. The aircraft retains the same scheme that it carried when owned by HRH Talal Bin Abdul Aziz al Saud of Saudi Arabia, from whom BCM acquired it in December 1993. It has been operated by BCM Majestic Corporation since March 2006.

The first Sky Airline Boeing 737-200 repainted in the carrier's updated livery is CC-ABD (c/n 22736, ex N763BA). The 737-2Q3(Adv) was delivered to the airline in March 2010 and is seen undergoing engine tests at Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport, Santiago in Chile, on July 27, 2011. Until now, only the Airbus A320s of the carrier have worn the new colours.

ATR 42-500MP NAF-931 landing at Turin-Caselle Airport in Italy on August 2, 2011, at the conclusion of a test flight from the airfield.

Lockheed Martin C-5M Super Galaxy 83-1285 of the 9th Airlift Squadron, 436th Air Mobility Wing based at Dover AFB, Delaware, participated in the recent Air Mobility Rodeo at McChord Field, Washington. As the only unit with the upgraded C-5M at the event, Team Dover (the 436th AMW and its associate Air Force Reserve Command wing, the 512th AMW) had a clear advantage and won all the events for the Galaxy.

Hawker 750 G-ZIPR is the latest addition to the PremiAir fleet.

Nineteen Hawks flew in a '70' formation over RAF Valley on Anglesey several times in early August 2011 to celebrate seven decades of flying at the base. The formation is seen on August 5. The 'seven' was made up of nine aircraft, seven in No.208(R) Squadron markings, and two in the 2011 display scheme. The 'zero' consisted of three of the new Hawk T2s at its head, with six No.208(R) Squadron Hawk T1s, and a single No.19(F) Squadron aircraft slotting in at the rear.

C-27J 08-27012 (c/n 4148/CA3, ex I-RAIF) of the 164th Airlift Squadron, 179th Airlift Wing, Ohio Air National Guard, is seen at Prestwick Airport on July 28, 2011, on its deployment to Afghanistan to join the 702nd EAS.

Wel Chen is undertaking a round-the-world flight in his TBM700A, the first ever by a Chinese private pilot.

On August 5, 2011 Eurocopter announced that it had fulfilled the 2009 contract to supply two EC225s to the Chinese Ministry of Transport's Rescue and Salvage Bureau. Both B-7136 and B-7137 (seen here with the test registration F-WJXS on a test flight from Marignanne on June 16, 2011) have joined the Nanhai No.1 Rescue Flying Service of the Bureau. B-7136 was delivered at the end of June and B-7137 on August 5. They are used for offshore search and rescue, and are equipped with searchlights, weather radar and a rescue hoist. They join an initial pair of EC225s (B-7125 and B-7126) delivered in 2007 and assigned to the Donghai and Beihai No.1 Rescue Flying Services, and three Eurocopter AS365N Dauphins, two Sikorsky S-76As, four S-76C+s, four S-76C++s and three Harbin Y-12s.

A-1M 5530 is the prototype for the upgraded AMX currently being developed for the Brazilian Air Force.

CASA 212-400 8981, seen prior to delivery at Getafe outside Seville, is the first example for the Vietnam Marine Police.

T-45C Goshawk BuNo 165080/'SD-201' of Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 23 (VX-23) 'Salty Dogs' has been involved in the HSRIP project, and carries titles to this effect on its extreme nose. The aircraft is seen at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, on May 23, 2011.

Beechcraft C-12D-1 81-23545 (c/n BP-26, ex N50515) is seen returning to RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk, on August 8, 2011. The aircraft has been modified with a ventral pannier containing a sensor turret at the rear (probably a Wescam MX-15) and a radome at the front (possibly containing the scanner for a General Atomics AN/APY-8 Lynx synthetic aperture radar). The aircraft operated as ‘Eagle Eye 61' during Exercise Early Resolve, in conjunction with the 48th Fighter Wing's (FW) F-15E Strike Eagles based at RAF Lakenheath, and the 52nd FW's A-10C Thunderbolt Ils deployed there. Early Resolve, a close air support training exercise, ran from August 1 to 10, with aircraft primarily flying over the Stanford Training Area in Norfolk, and the RAF Holbeach range on the Lincolnshire coast.

Electronic Attack Squadron 135 (VAQ-135) ‘Black Ravens' is the fourth to transition from the EA-6B Prowler to the EA-18G Growler and held a ceremony on June 17, 2011 commemorating their designation of 'safe for flight' in the Growler at NAS Whidbey Island.

The Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant has delivered a second batch of eight Mil Mi-8AMTShs to the Russian Air Force. The helicopters are part of the Government Defence Order 2011 and although no figure was given for the number handed over in the second batch, at least six examples are seen here on the flightline at Ulan-Ude, Buryatia. (The nearest helicopter, '51' red, also carries the civil RF- prefix on the tailboom, but no figures.) They were handed over in mid-May 2011 and departed at the end of the month for service units, while the original batch was delivered in December 2010. Further Mi-8AMTShs are due to enter Russian service in the second half of 2011.

The growing importance of the Chinese market for business jets has resulted in the Gulfstream G250 being rechristened the G280.

MQ-8B Fire Scouts BuNos 168212 (c/n N-15) and 167787 (N-4) on the deck of the USS Halyburton at the conclusion of their seven-month deployment with HSL-42 Det 2.

The mock-up of the AW169 unveiled at Yeovil, Somerset, on July 21, 2011. Flight testing of the AW169 will take place in both the UK and Italy from early 2012 with design and development work scheduled to finish by the end of 2014. Deliveries to customers will start in 2015.

Airbus A319-112 VQ-BMM (msn 3171, ex EI-EAF) is the first of two of the airliners to be delivered to Tatarstan Airlines. Owned by the leasing company AerCap, it was handed over on July 1, 2011 and is seen on August 14 making its first flight into Palma de Mallorca Airport from Kazan. It was previously flown by KoralBlue Airlines as SU-KBB until stored at Shannon Airport in Ireland from March 3.

The airliner is awaiting maintenance by Aeroplex at the airfield prior to joining the Kyrgyzstan Government fleet. It received its current registration on July 12, having previously flown for Qantas JetConnect as ZK-JTR. It will be the second 737-400 recently delivered to the government fleet after EX-73401 (c/n 25361, ex N761AS) was handed over on June 23.

Xiamen Airlines of China has taken delivery of the first Boeing 737NG incorporating the High-Altitude/High-Temperature Airport Operations Feature Package and Sky Interior. The package increases the thrust rating of the airliner's CFM International CFM56s, provides additional oxygen and enhanced navigation at high-altitude airports. The aircraft (737-75C B-5279, c/n 36766, ex N1797B) departed Boeing Field/King County International Airport on July 29, 2011 for Honolulu International, Hawaii, on its delivery flight to China. It will operate from airports on the Tibetan plateau.

Initial flight test of the China Helicopter Design Institute U8 rotary-wing unmanned air vehicle have been completed, according to Chinese state media. The U8 recently completed 29 sorties in 15 days at Tianshui City, Gansu province, and Xinng, Qinghai. The U8 made its first flight in 2007 and has been offered for export as the U8E for a number of military and civilian roles, including surveillance and search and rescue.
